Last Thursday, eleven students represented CSHS at the UMary Math Competition where they competed in challenging individual and team tests. Throughout the day, there was lots of math discussion amongst the students. During the afternoon session, UMary professor Dr. Travis Wolf gave a presentation on a newfound mathematical shape - the Einstein Hat - and its relevance to mathematical tessellations, or tilings. This shape was only recently discovered in 2022 and the proof published in 2023. Students then were given their own set of Einstein tiles and time to collaborate to make their own tessellations. It was fun learning about new and relevant math topics.
