Happy New Year! Time flies when you’re having fun…where did the first half of our year go?! It’s hard to believe winter break has come to a close, and we are launching into 2022! We had such a fun December, filled with memorable events! Thank you for all of the wonderful gifts and sweet cards! I am excited to reconnect with everyone and see what the new year has in store for each of us! This month we plan to explore the changes the cold weather brings, the hardiest animals and how they adapt to their environments, and do some fun science and art projects using snow and ice to learn about freezing and melting.

Just a few reminders as we brave another North Dakota January: Please remember to send your child with the proper gear for the weather. At this point, they are required to have a hat, winter jacket, snow pants, snow boots, and gloves, preferably something waterproof. If they do not have waterproof gloves, please send a backup pair so they always have something dry to wear. Our littlest students are affected by the cold faster than our older ones, so please help us to keep them as protected as possible from the weather. If possible, please mark all of your child’s winter gear with a black permanent marker so that if it is misplaced or left in the hallway, we can get it back to its child quickly.

  • Is my child able to properly cover his/her cough?
  • Is there excessive/discolored nasal discharge?
  • Is she lethargic or extremely tired?
  • Is he well enough to partake in the upbeat activities of the day?
  • Is she well enough to partake in outdoor activities?
  • Is he noticeably uncomfortable or irritated?
  • Is she difficult to console?

Making the conservative choice to keep your child home when they are not feeling well will ensure that your child gets plenty of rest to heal, and it will protect the other students from developing similar symptoms. Thank you for your help in limiting exposure and keeping your child home when ill. Please review our handbook for guidelines for when your child MUST stay home. I appreciate your help in keeping our youngest students safe and healthy! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful 2022!
