6th Grade Families:

For the month of October, we will be exploring the following topics:

  • ancient Mesopotamia
  • motion graphing, speed, velocity, acceleration, and simple machines
  • rates, ratios, proportions, area, and perimeter
  • argument writing involving bugs, and parts of speech

We had a lot of fun in September. We were happy to do the following activities:

  • Eco-Ed Day
  • Writing thank you letters to the Eco-Ed organizers and instructors
  • Reading to first graders and learning basics on teaching someone to read using letter sounds (phonemes)
  • Reading party where they had to read 5 AR points to attend the party (They all made it!)
  • Homecoming week
  • Everyone passing their first social studies and science tests
  • Learning about nouns, pronouns, and adjectives
  • Experiments and teaching demonstrations for classmates
  • Doing “cave” art
  • Making graphs about themselves

In order to get in to this month’s spooky party, students will need to read and pass 2 AR tests. One book must have a monster of some kind and the other book must be a mystery. I look forward to seeing what books the students will pick up and share with their classmates.

Best Regards,

Mrs. Gusewelle
